The YELLS Networking Dinner: A Night to Connect for Community

Connecting for Community

YELLS youth and local leaders forged lasting connections during a magical night of networking for community.  Our YELLS Mentoring Program “Bigs” and Community Action Cafe teens impressed guests with their professionalism and poise.  The YELLS Networking Dinner offered youth the chance to practice the relationship-building skills they learn each day at YELLS.  Once nervous and shy, youth gained confidence and inspiration as they conversed with business, community, and elected leaders in an authentic networking environment.

Stephanie, a Big in the Mentoring Program, shared that she was terrified of public speaking, and that is exactly why YELLS staff chose her to introduce one of our panelists and share about her service project plans.  She did an amazing job, conquered her fear, and now knows that she can rise to whatever challenge she sets for herself.

YELLS youth walked away buzzing with excitement from all the connections they made and new perspectives they gained from both guests and our expert panel, including Kevin Greiner from Gas South, Mariela Romero from Univision, LaSandra Boykins from Delta Air Lines, State Representative Brenda Lopez, and our MC, Chesley McNeil from 11Alive. Our teens learned the value of relationship-building and forging lasting connections.  Some lucky youth were even offered job opportunities and internships!  Most importantly, everyone had a chance to share their plans to impact our Franklin Gateway community and get advice about the different service projects and initiatives they are planning.
