When Mr. Robin retired, he knew he wanted to use his extra time to make a difference. He had been a 5th grade teacher for three years during his early career, and he was searching “aggressively,” he says, for a place where he could continue to pour into the lives of young people. That search led him straight to YELLS, and we’ve been grateful ever since.

From the moment he stepped through our doors, Mr. Robin became a steady, cherished presence in the YELLS Afterschool Program. The kids quickly took to him, running for hugs, waving from buses, and looking to him with the warmth and trust of family. To them, Mr. Robin is more than a volunteer; he’s a grandpa, a mentor, and a cheerleader who believes deeply in their potential. And to him, they are his own.
“Two words: the kids,” he says when asked what keeps him coming back. “And working with a wonderful and dedicated staff.”
Mr. Robin brings passion, dedication, and wisdom into every afternoon he spends with our YELLS kiddos. Whether he’s helping with homework, offering a listening ear, helping ensure activities run smoothly, or simply sitting alongside a student who needs a little encouragement, Mr. Robin does it all with heart. His presence brings calm, connection, and care to our program.

What has he gained from YELLS? In his words: “Fulfillment. Observing the children mature academically, emotionally, and in self-worth.”
We feel that fulfillment, too, every time we see a student’s face light up as Mr. Robin walks in. He reminds us all what it means to show up, give back, and believe in the next generation.
To those considering volunteering, Mr. Robin offers this:
“Imagine an environment where children hop off the bus and greet you with hugs and hellos. And when you leave, you carry home a feeling of self-gratification. That’s YELLS.”
Mr. Robin, thank you for becoming such a beloved part of our YELLS family. You’ve created a second act rooted in purpose, and our youth and our team are better for it.
